Canucks hold off Ducks with late goal

canucks

Dakota Joshua scored his second goal of the game with 2:13 left to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 win against the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Sunday afternoon.

Joshua, who was in his second game back after missing 18 with a fractured finger, scored off a feed from below the goal line by Conor Garland.

Brock Boeser also scored, J.T. Miller had two assists and Arturs Silovs made 20 saves in his sixth NHL start for the Canucks (46-20-8, 100 points), who ended a two-game losing streak and extended their lead over the Edmonton Oilers to six points for first place in the Pacific Division.

Olen Zellweger scored his first NHL goal, Mason McTavish also scored and Lukas Dostal made 27 saves for the Ducks (24-47-4, 52 points), who have lost five in a row and 12 of 13.

Ben Meyers was in the penalty box for delay of game after sending the puck over the glass when Boeser scored to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead at 11:26 of the first period.

Quinn Hughes took a slap shot from the top of the left circle that Dostal saved, but the rebound came out diagonally and Boeser reached out with one hand and poked the puck into the net for his 38th goal of the season.

Vancouver stretched the lead to 2-0 with another power-play goal at 9:34 of the second period.

Jakob Silfverberg was in the penalty box for tripping Elias Pettersson when Pius Suter passed the puck to Joshua to the side of the net. He slid the puck between his legs and then shot it over Dostal’s right shoulder.

Zellweger ended Silovs’ bid for his first NHL shutout when he entered the play late, took a pass from Isac Lundestrom and scored from the bottom of the left circle to cut the lead to 2-1 at 3:37 of the third period.

The Ducks tied it 2-2 at 4:48 when Gustav Lindstrom brought the puck around the back of the net and then passed it out front to McTavish, who chipped it into the net.
