Washington Capitals forward Brandon Duhaime was fined $2,500 by the NHL on Wednesday for unsportsmanlike conduct that occurred while he was on his team’s bench.
Duhaime reached out from the bench with his stick and jabbed Seattle Kraken forward Jacob Melanson during the second period on Tuesday night.
The two renewed acquaintances with 1:17 remaining in the third period, with both players getting whistled for a five-minute fighting penalty. Duhaime also picked up an extra two minutes for roughing in the Capitals’ 5-1 loss to the host Kraken.
Duhaime, 28, has tallied six points (four goals, two assists) and 58 penalty minutes in 54 games. He is a pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign.
He has 67 points (33 goals, 34 assists) and 390 penalty minutes in 347 career games split between the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche and Capitals.
