The Los Angeles Chargers designated Pro Bowl offensive tackle Rashawn Slater to return from injured reserve on Tuesday.
The Chargers have 21 days to activate the former first-round draft pick or lose him for the rest of the playoffs, provided they win this week.
Slater ruptured his left biceps tendon during the third quarter of the Chargers’ 38-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 25. Per coach Brandon Staley, Slater is not expected to play on Saturday in Los Angeles’ AFC wild-card game in Jacksonville.
“You will see him at practice. He’s not going to play in this game, but we’re going to open up the window for him to start practice,” Staley said. “He’s progressing well, and we’re excited to get him back.”
Slater, 23, has started all 19 games in which he has played since being selected by the Chargers with the 13th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Also on Tuesday, Staley said wide receiver Mike Williams is receiving treatment and is considered day-to-day with a back contusion.
Williams sustained the injury late in the first half of Sunday’s 31-28 loss to the Denver Broncos. He needed the assistance of a cart to return to the locker room.
Williams, 28, missed four games in the middle of the season with an ankle injury. Despite that, he still finished with a team-high 895 yards to go along with 63 catches and four touchdowns.
