David Perron, Red Wings hand Bruins first loss of season

David Perron had a goal and two assists to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-4 home win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

It was the first regulation loss of the season for Boston.

Trailing 3-2 after two periods, Detroit scored three goals in a span of 3:44 in the third period to take a 5-3 lead.

Detroit tied the game at 3-3 with 13:10 remaining in the game when Dylan Larkin skated in toward the Boston goal and beat Linus Ullmark with a shot to the stick side.

Perron gave the Red Wings a 4-3 lead with 11:04 remaining when he fired a wrist shot from the left face-off circle into the goal. Andrew Copp put Detroit ahead 5-3 with 9:26 left when he put home a rebound into a half-open net after a shot from J.T. Compher bounced off the crossbar and in front of the goal.

David Pastrnak pulled Boston to within 5-4 on a power-play goal with 5:49 remaining.

Boston briefly pulled Ullmark with under two minutes left, but a tripping penalty on Pastrnak with 1:28 remaining gave the Red Wings a power play for the rest of regulation. Another penalty on Charlie Coyle gave Detroit a 2-man advantage and Boston wasn’t able to pull Ullmark the rest of the way.

With the game tied at 2-2, Boston took a 3-2 lead with 6:19 left in the second period when Coyle skated to the right of Ville Husso and tipped in a pass from Jake DeBrusk.

Boston took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by James van Riemsdyk and Matthew Poitras, but Detroit cut its deficit to 2-1 on a power-play goal by Lucas Raymond with 3:40 remaining in the first period.

Detroit tied the game at 2-2 with 10:01 left in the second on a power-play goal by Jake Walman.
