Dream rally past Storm to extend win streak to 4

Rhyne Howard scored 33 points, Allisha Gray had 28 and the visiting Atlanta Dream rallied to defeat the Seattle Storm 94-87 on Friday night.

Brionna Jones scored 15 points and Naz Hillmon had 11 for the Dream (5-2), who won their fourth consecutive game after outscoring the Storm 31-21 in the fourth quarter.

Skylar Diggins scored 20 points, Nneka Ogwumike had 16 and Erica Wheeler and Gabby Williams added 14 each for the Storm (3-3).

The Storm scored the first six points of the third quarter to increase their lead to 51-34. The Dream scored the next six points before Diggins converted a three-point play for a 14-point lead.

Gray had a three-point play and a 3-pointer during an 11-0 run that pulled the Dream within 61-59. Diggins made three free throws and added a free throw to give Seattle a 66-63 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Gray scored five points during a 12-4 run that gave Atlanta a 75-70 lead early in the fourth quarter. Seattle got within a point, but Howard scored five points to help the Dream build an 82-76 lead.

The Storm got within two points, but Howard’s 3-pointer helped Atlanta regain control.

Diggins and Ogwumike scored four points each during an 8-0 run that gave the Storm a 10-3 lead. Howard made a jumper to stop the run and added a 3-pointer to help the Dream get within 12-8.

Seattle led by as many as 11 points before Hillmon made two free throws and Te-Hina Paopao made a 3-pointer to help Atlanta get within 23-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The Storm scored the first four points of the second quarter before Griner’s layup produced the Dream’s first points of the period and Howard’s basket trimmed the lead to back to eight.

Seattle scored the next seven points, but Atlanta answered with seven straight to get within 36-28. The Storm increased its lead to 11 points on three occasions, the last being 45-34 at halftime.
