The Detroit Red Wings traded veteran goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday for future considerations.
Husso, 30, has not played for Detroit since a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Jan. 14. He was 1-5-2 with a 3.69 goals-against average and an .866 save percentage.
The Red Wings sent him down to AHL affiliate Grand Rapids, where he was 8-4-0 with a 2.70 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
The Ducks will assign him to their AHL affiliate in San Diego as they deal with numerous injuries at the position. Anaheim starter John Gibson sustained an upper-body injury in Saturday’s win over the Boston Bruins and is day-to-day. Oscar Dansk was recalled from San Diego, leaving Vyacheslav Buteyets as the Gulls’ only healthy goalie.
Husso is in the final year of a three-year, $14.25 million contract with an annual salary cap hit of $4.75 million. He is due to be an unrestricted free agent after the season, but the Red Wings acted Monday, ahead of the NHL trade deadline on March 8.
The St. Louis Blues selected the native of Finland in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft. He is a career 70-45-18 with a 3.05 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 141 games (135 starts) for the Blues (2020-22) and Red Wings (2022-25).
Husso was 2-5-0 with a 3.67 GAA and an .890 save percentage in seven playoff games (six starts) for St. Louis in 2022. The Blues traded him to the Red Wings in July 2022.
