Anaheim Ducks forward Justin Kirkland was involved in a car accident Sunday and was taken to a local hospital overnight for treatment, the team announced Monday.
The accident occurred when Kirkland was on his way to the Ducks’ home game against the Boston Bruins.
The team said the 26-year-old “has full mobility and is communicating with his family and teammates.” He is staying in the hospital for at least another night and is expected to be released in 24 to 48 hours. There was no information given about the extent of Kirkland’s injuries.
“We are thankful for the quick care and treatment Justin received from first responders and medical staff at UCI Health,” general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. “Justin is in great spirits, and we hope he will be released shortly.”
Kirkland was a third-round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2014, but he only reached the NHL this season after signing with Anaheim during free agency last offseason. He’s split the season between Anaheim (seven games) and AHL affiliate San Diego (19 games).
