Emma Raducanu (back) WDs from Miami Open

Emma Raducanu

Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu of Great Britain has withdrawn from the Miami Open, citing a lower back injury.

Raducanu, 21, returned to competitive tennis in January following after eight months off due to wrist and ankle surgeries. She advanced to the third round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., last week before falling to world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.

Raducanu was scheduled to face China’s Xiyu Wang in their first-round match Tuesday. Wang will now face qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia.

Raducanu became the first qualifier to win the U.S. Open in 2021.
