Flames erase three deficits, down skidding Predators

Flames, Predators

Jonathan Huberdeau and Kevin Rooney each collected a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Calgary Flames to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

Nazem Kadri and Brayden Pachal also scored for the Flames, who went into the clash with one win in seven games (1-4-2) and snapped an eight-game road winless stretch (0-5-3). Calgary goaltender Dan Vladar made 17 saves.

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and Tommy Novak tallied once for the Predators, who sit at the bottom of the league standings and have lost eight consecutive games (0-5-3). Filip Forsberg collected two assists and Juuse Saros stopped 24 shots while his team surrendered a trio of leads.

Huberdeau gave Calgary its first lead with 79 seconds remaining in the second period by pouncing on a loose puck during a power play for his team-leading 10th goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game.

It is also the first time the Flames scored more than three goals in an outing — not counting a shootout winner — in 26 games. Calgary accomplished that feat for the first time since the third game of the season.

The Flames held off a frantic third-period push with Vladar making seven saves and Calgary withstanding a Predators power play.

Marchessault opened the scoring at the 7:45 mark of the clash, converting a redirect from the slot set up by Steven Stamkos.

Kadri put the Flames on the board at 10:22 of the first period, scoring with a sharp-angled shot that Saros could not corral and actually knocked into his own cage during a flurry at the net.

Novak replied 30 seconds later with his fourth goal of the campaign and first in 16 outings, finishing a three-way passing play during an odd-man rush.

Rooney evened the score again at 2:27 of the second period, one-timing a cross-ice pass from Walker Duehr to make it a 2-2 game.

Marchessault put the Predators ahead a third time at 7:41 of the second when he finished another two-on-one rush with Forsberg.

Pachal responded to make it a 3-3 game six minutes later with his first goal of the season, snapping a 29-game drought dating to last season with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot.
