Flyers add to Sharks’ misery with a narrow victory

flyers

Morgan Frost had one goal and one assist to lift the host Philadelphia Flyers past the San Jose Sharks 3-2 on Tuesday.

Joel Farabee and Owen Tippett each scored one goal while Travis Konecny and Cam York registered two assists apiece.

Flyers coach John Tortorella wasn’t on the bench as he was serving the first of a two-game suspension.

Associate coach Brad Shaw replaced Tortorella.

Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson made 27 saves.

Filip Zadina scored both goals for the Sharks, who have dropped 10 of their past 11 games, and Luke Kunin recorded two assists.

Sharks goaltender Magnus Chrona stopped 38 shots.

The Flyers took a 3-2 lead at 5:09 of the third period when Tippett received a pass from Konecny and scored while the referee had his hand up for a delayed Sharks penalty.

Chrona was pulled for an extra skater at 17:53, but the Sharks couldn’t equalize.

The Flyers went ahead 1-0 at 3:29 of the first period when Frost sent a crisp pass to a wide open Farabee behind the Sharks’ defensemen for a quick goal.

San Jose’s Mario Ferraro fired a slap shot through traffic at 7:52, but Ersson made a nifty pad save.

Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim had a point-blank shot at 15:26 but Chrona denied the strong chance.

The Sharks tied the score at 1 with 40.3 seconds left when Zadina scored on the power play for his 11th goal of the season, a career-high.
Konecny was whistled for roughing at 6:24 of the second period, but the Sharks were unable to capitalize on their third power play.

The Sharks were then called for too many men on the ice at 9:00. Frost took advantage 20 seconds later as he snapped an 11-game goal-scoring drought for a 2-1 Philadelphia lead.

San Jose had a two-man advantage for 11 seconds at 11:41 and Zadina’s second goal tied the game at 2 with just seven seconds left on the second minor at 13:34.
