Travis Konecny recorded four assists and Samuel Ersson made 22 saves to guide the Philadelphia Flyers to an emphatic 6-0 home victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
Five different Flyers registered a goal and an assist, including former Ducks defenseman Jamie Drysdale, as the team snapped a four-game losing streak. Joining Drysdale with a two-point performance in front of an electric home crowd were Garnet Hathaway, Morgan Frost, Ryan Poehling and Owen Tippett.
John Gibson allowed six goals on 30 shots for Anaheim, which has lost four of its last five games. The Ducks have been outscored 15-4 during their current three-game skid.
Philadelphia scored twice in the opening period, beginning with Frost’s goal on a swinging redirection of a Konecny shot. Konecny set up the second goal as well, finding Drysdale in front for a power-play goal late in the opening period.
Konecny continued to be an assist machine in the second period, setting up Tippett’s one-timer on a 2-on-1 rush that made it 3-0.
The Flyers tacked on three more goals in the third period, highlighted by Matvei Michkov’s goal with 12:24 remaining. The Russian rookie pounced on a rebound of a Konecny shot that went off the end boards and buried it for his 13th goal (but just his second in the last 16 games).
Philadelphia’s other two third-period goals came from its fourth line. Hathaway set up Poehling’s nifty goal 24 seconds into the session, then Poehling assisted on Hathaway’s goal less than two minutes after Michkov’s tally.
Ersson’s shutout was his second of the season and the seventh of his career.
Cutter Gauthier, a former first-round pick of the Flyers who was dealt to the Ducks in exchange for Drysdale last January, was a minus-1 for Anaheim. He tied for the team lead with three shots on goal.
