Forward Emma Meesseman signed a contract with the New York Liberty on Friday morning, the team announced.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Meesseman, who will debut Friday night as the Liberty (17-9) bid to snap a season-worst three-game skid against the Connecticut Sun (4-21) in Uncasville, Conn.

Meesseman, 32, is two-time All-Star and the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP. Her arrival comes at an opportune time given that two-time WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks with a bone bruise in her right knee.

“Emma Meesseman’s return to the WNBA is a tremendous moment for our league, and the fact that she chose New York for her next chapter speaks volumes,” Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb said. “She is one of the most skilled, intelligent, and unselfish players in the world and her presence elevates everyone around her. Emma brings invaluable experience, championship pedigree, and a unique versatility that fits seamlessly into our group as we continue our relentless pursuit of a title in 2025.”

The 6-foot-4 forward last played in the WNBA in 2022 for the Chicago Sky, averaging 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 36 starts.

Prior to that, she played seven seasons with the Washington Mystics. She has career averages of 11.5 points, 5.3 boards and 2.6 assists in 238 games (186 starts).

She played in Europe following her stint with the Sky. Meesseman competed in the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket tournament with her native Belgium this summer, guiding the team to the championship while earning her third MVP honor in the last four years.
