G Craig Anderson signing 1-day deal to retire as Senator

Goaltender Craig Anderson will sign a one-day contract with Ottawa to retire as a Senator, multiple outlets reported.

Nothing official has been announced but reports indicated it could happen before Tuesday’s game against Buffalo.

Anderson, 42, played for 20 seasons with six NHL teams. He played 435 of his 709 career games with the Senators.

He compiled a 319-275-73 career record with 43 shutouts, a 2.86 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

In addition to the Senators (2011-20), he played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals and Sabres.

Anderson was 11-11-2 with one shutout, a 3.06 GAA and a .908 save percentage with the Sabres in 2022-23.

The Illinois native led the NHL in total saves (2,047) in 2009-10 and in save percentage (.941) and GAA (1.69) in 2012-13.

Anderson never won a Stanley Cup. He participated in the postseason six times, losing with Ottawa in the 2017 Eastern Conference finals to the eventual champion Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games.
