The top two seeds will meet in Saturday’s Qatar TotalEnergies Open final in Doha.
No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland whipped No. 8 Veronika Kudermetova of Russia 6-0, 6-1, while No. 2 Jessica Pegula held off No. 5 Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in Friday’s semifinals of the WTA 500 event.
Swiatek has a 4-2 lead in the head-to-head series with Pegula, although the American won the most recent clash 6-1, 6-1 at the United Cup last month in Sydney, Australia.
Swiatek eliminated Kudermetova in 56 minutes. The World No. 1 converted five of her six break chances and never faced a break point.
Pegula broke Sakkari’s serve four consecutive times in the deciding set, finishing the match in just under two hours on a day marred by windy conditions.
