Jesper Bratt, who had a goal and an assist in regulation, also assisted on the winner. Evan Rodrigues, Anthony Mantha and Nico Hischier also scored for New Jersey, while Jake Allen made 22 saves. Hughes chipped in two assists.

Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist for Detroit. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Emmitt Finnie each added a goal and an assist, while John Gibson stopped 32 shots.

The Devils capitalized on a Wings turnover in their own zone to score first. Stefan Noesen fed the puck to Rodrigues, who scored from the slot, beating Gibson glove side. Mantha was credited with the second assist at 6:07 of the first period.

Finnie tied it with 1:25 remaining in the period, converting a cross-ice pass from Brandsegg-Nygard and firing a shot from the left circle past Allen’s glove. Anton Johansson also collected an assist.

A wild second period ended with the Devils leading 4-3.

Brandsegg-Nygard briefly gave the Red Wings a lead when he converted a 2-on-1 situation off a Finnie pass. DeBrincat picked up the second assist.

Mantha tied it by scoring near the crease off a setup from Dawson Mercer. With Keegan Kolesar in the penalty box for hooking, New Jersey took a 3-2 lead on Hischier’s goal, as he tipped a backhander past Gibson. Bratt and Hughes had the assists.

DeBrincat tied it again with a shot near the blue line that deflected off a defender’s stick. Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Justin Faulk picked up the assists.

Bratt scored the final goal of the period, lifting the puck past a screened Gibson with 3:08 left in the period. Jonas Siegenthaler and Hughes had the assists.

DeBrincat tied it at 4-all with 14:14 remaining, one-timing a shot from the left circle off a Moritz Seider pass.
