Jackie Young, Aces blast Lynx

Jackie Young posted 24 points and Kelsey Plum pumped in 21 in another high-scoring performance for the Las Vegas Aces, who cruised to a 93-62 victory against the visiting Minnesota Lynx on Sunday night.

The Aces (10-1) showed offensive efficiency for much of the game, reaching the 90-point mark for the ninth time this season. They benefited from committing only six turnovers.

Chelsea Gray’s 17 points and five assists were boosts for the Las Vegas offense. Candace Parker provided 11 points, scoring in double figures for just the third time in her last nine games, and A’ja Wilson pulled in a game-high 14 rebounds.

Napheesa Collier scored 15 of her 18 points in the first half for the Lynx (3-8), who had won two straight and three of their previous four games.

Minnesota’s horrid shooting gave it little chance to catch up. The Lynx connected on only 33.3 percent of their shots, while they were completely doomed by 4-for-24 shooting on 3-pointers. Minnesota attempted nine free throws, with Collier going 5-for-5.

Young was 8-for-8 at the foul line, matching Minnesota’s points on free throws.

The Aces finished the first half on a roll and then outscored Minnesota 14-4 across the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half to build a 23-point advantage.

Las Vegas didn’t let up, recording a 30-9 scoring advantage in the first 13 minutes of the second half.

Plum and Gray combined for 27 first-half points as the Aces led 54-41 at halftime.

Las Vegas, which scored the final nine points of the second quarter, shot 56.8 percent from the field in the opening half despite going only 4-for-13 from deep. Gray and Plum each had two long balls in the half. For Plum, she reached 300 career 3-point baskets in the first half and finished with four threes in the game.

The Aces also put together a 94-73 home drubbing of Minnesota last month.
