The New York Jets signed former first-round safety Lewis Cine to their practice squad on Wednesday, one day after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports.
Cine, 24, was waived by the Vikings after efforts to trade him were unsuccessful, per the reports. It’s expected the Jets will add Cine to their 53-man roster once he’s comfortable with the playbook.
The Vikings selected Cine No. 32 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He suffered a compound leg fracture in Week 4 of his rookie season. He returned in 2023 and played in seven games, mostly on special teams. He has played just 10 defensive snaps in 10 games (zero starts) across two seasons.
Also Wednesday, the Jets claimed former Chicago Bears tight end Brenden Bates off waivers.
