Jordan Spieth DQ’d for scorecard error

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth admitted his error after he was disqualified from the Genesis Invitational on Friday for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Spieth unofficially shot a 2-over-par 73 in the second round at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. That would have left him at 3-under 139, and he would have made the cut to play on the weekend.

However, Spieth made a bogey 4 at the par-3 fourth hole but signed for a 3.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Spieth wrote, “Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct. Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility. I love this tournament and golf course as much as any on @PGATOUR so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend. Really appreciated the support in LA”

Spieth, ranked 12th in the world, had been off to a solid start to 2024. He came in third place at the season-opening Sentry event in Hawaii, then tied for 39th at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am before tying for sixth last week at the WM Phoenix Open.

The 30-year-old Dallas native has won 13 PGA Tour events, including the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2015 and the Open Championship in 2017.
