The United States is being joined by Mexico as a co-host of the 2031 Women’s World Cup, multiple outlets confirmed.

ESPN reported Friday night that the Mexican Football Federation confirmed the arrangement.

FIFA said earlier this year that the United States was the only “valid” bidder for the 2031 event, which, for the first time, will include 48 teams.

Still to be decided is how many matches will be played in Mexico and whether additional countries will join in the effort.

Mexico and the U.S. previously submitted a joint bid for the 2027 event but withdrew that effort to shift gears to 2031. The 2027 Women’s World Cup will be played in Brazil.

The 2026 Men’s World Cup will be a joint effort between the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Of the 16 host cities, 11 are in the United States, with the final set for MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
