Miles Wood scored off a deflection to forge a tie in the third period, then converted from the doorstep 2:53 into overtime to fuel the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Jet Greaves stopped Jiri Kulich on a breakaway early in overtime before Wood capped his two-goal performance to give the Blue Jackets their fourth win in their last five games. Wood made his return to the ice following a five-game absence due to an eye injury.

Yegor Chinakhov collected a goal and an assist, defenseman Zach Werenski converted on the power play and Greaves made 35 saves for the Blue Jackets.

Buffalo’s Josh Doan and Ryan McLeod each scored a goal in the second period while former Blue Jackets center Josh Dunne netted his first NHL goal in the third.

Alex Tuch notched two assists and Alex Lyon turned aside 35 shots for the Sabres, who lost in overtime for the second straight game.

Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson’s shot from outside the left circle provided a loose puck in front, and Dunne was able to convert to give the Sabres a 3-2 lead at 2:40 of the third. Dunne was playing in his 20th career NHL game, with the first 14 coming while wearing a Blue Jackets uniform.

Chinakhov’s forecheck produced a turnover in the offensive end, and he alertly retrieved the puck and backhanded it past Lyon to open the scoring at 6:09 of the first.

Tuch deftly tipped a loose puck ahead to an unmarked Doan, who made good on his second attempt from in close to forge a 1-1 tie at 11:39 of the second.

Stationed along the left-wing boards, McLeod’s shot toward the net caromed off the knee of Columbus defenseman Damon Severson and into the net to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead with 5:48 remaining in the second. McLeod’s third goal of the season extended his point streak to four games.

Werenski’s power-play blast from the point sailed past Lyon to level the contest at 2-2 with 16 seconds left in the second.
