A judge declared a mistrial on Friday in the sexual assault case against five pro hockey players in London, Ontario.

As a result, jury selection began for a new trial for the former members of Canada’s world junior hockey team. The new trial was expected to begin later Friday, according to TSN, with a new set of 14 jury members.

Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, Dillon Dube and Alex Formenton have all pleaded not guilty to the alleged assault in an Ontario hotel room in June 2018.

Their trial got underway on Wednesday in Ontario Superior Court but was recessed for legal arguments after brief testimony from the prosecution’s first witness.

Justice Maria Carroccia brought the jurors back on Friday morning and told them they were being discharged. She did not provide a reason for the mistrial.

None of the accused players is currently on an NHL roster or has an active contract with an NHL team.
