Jonathan Marchessault registered his fifth career hat trick and the visiting Vegas Golden Knights continued their surge with a 5-2 victory over the slumping New York Rangers on Friday night.

Vegas improved to 5-0-1 in its past six games following a 4-9-0 slide.

Sheldon Rempal and Keegan Kolesar also scored for the Golden Knights. Ivan Barbashev set up all three Marchessault goals, and Nicolas Roy collected assists on the first two Marchessault tallies. Vegas goalie Adin Hill made 36 saves.

Blake Wheeler and Kaapo Kakko scored for the Rangers, who lost for the ninth time in 13 games (4-7-2). New York goalie Igor Shesterkin allowed four goals on 19 shots.

Panthers 3, Penguins 2 (SO)

Sam Reinhart scored the shootout winner and Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves as Florida prevailed at Pittsburgh.

Reinhart also scored in regulation, as did Evan Rodrigues, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson added two assists for the Panthers, who won their third straight. Reinhart extended his point streak to 12 games and extended his franchise record with a goal in an eighth straight road game.

Evgeni Malkin tied it in the final minute of regulation, and Jake Guentzel also scored for the Penguins, who are 1-2-3 in their past six games. Alex Nedeljkovic made 29 saves in the loss.

Blues 4, Kraken 3 (OT)

Pavel Buchnevich scored twice, including the winner at 3:31 of overtime, and added an assist as St. Louis rallied for a victory against host Seattle.

Robert Thomas had a goal and an assist, Oskar Sundqvist also tallied and Brayden Schenn added two assists for St. Louis, which won its fourth game in a row. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington made 33 saves.

Oliver Bjorkstrand had a goal and an assist for Seattle, which dropped to 1-4-1 in its past six games. Brian Dumoulin and Eeli Tolvanen also scored, and Joey Daccord stopped 14 of 18 shots.

Avalanche 5, Kings 1

Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist to extend his home point streak to 25 games, Logan O’Connor scored twice, and Colorado beat slumping Los Angeles in Denver.

MacKinnon moved past Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov for the NHL lead in scoring with 84 points. He finished January with 12 goals and 14 assists. Cale Makar also had a goal, Ross Colton added two assists and Alexandar Georgiev turned away 26 shots for Colorado, which heads into a nine-day break with three straight wins.

Kevin Fiala scored and Cam Talbot had nine saves on 12 shots before giving way to David Rittich, who turned away 17 shots for Los Angeles. The Kings are 2-8-5 in their last 15 games.
