Noah Ostlund scored two goals and the Buffalo Sabres defeated the visiting Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Monday night.

Bowen Byram, Beck Malenstyn and Tage Thompson scored for the Sabres, who earned their second consecutive win. Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin added two assists, and Colten Ellis made 32 saves.

Buffalo held the duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to just one assist by Draisaitl. The Sabres have won five of their last six home games against the Oilers.

Jack Roslovic scored for Edmonton, which had won three of its last four. Stuart Skinner stopped 23 shots.

Byram and Malenstyn scored 1:02 apart, nearly halfway through the second period, to give Buffalo a 3-1 lead.

Byram’s spinning one-timer from the right circle broke a 1-1 tie, 8:41 into the middle period. Malenstyn then tipped in Dahlin’s shot, which came from the left point, at 9:43, for his first goal of the season.

Ostlund made it 4-1 with his second goal 7:55 into the third period. He skated from behind the net into the right circle, spun and fired the puck into the net.

Ostlund came into the game with one career goal.

Thompson added an empty-net goal with 2:23 remaining.

Roslovic tied it 1-1 for Edmonton 4:29 into the second. He ripped a one-timer from the slot, off a backhand pass from Draisaitl, past Ellis off the rush. Roslovic has scored in four of the last five games.

Ostlund’s power-play goal with 57 seconds left in the first period gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead. Positioned to Skinner’s left, with his back to the net and just off the crease, Ostlund took a pass, spun, went from backhand to forehand and beat Skinner with a quick shot. It came with McDavid in the penalty box for high-sticking.

The Oilers outshot the Sabres seven to six in the opening period. Alex Tuch had two shots for Buffalo in the opening 20 minutes.
