Green Bay rookie offensive lineman Jordan Morgan, the Packers’ first-round pick in the 2024 draft, will be out at least a week with a shoulder injury, coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday.
Morgan, projected as the starter at right guard, was injured during Tuesday’s practice.
“It’s nothing long term,” LaFleur said, “but he’s going to be out probably a week or so.”
LaFleur said Morgan will miss the preseason opener against the host Cleveland Browns on Saturday, but “it doesn’t appear” that he won’t be ready for the Packers’ season opener Sept. 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.
“I think there’s, like most of these guys, some good, some bad. A lot to learn from,” LaFleur said of Morgan’s camp. “But we’re excited about the talent. You can see the talent there. I think it’s just making sure he gets the adequate number of reps so it’s second nature, and there’s a lot less thinking going on. But I feel like he’s competed well, and he just needs to continue to learn and improve.”
The 6-foot-5, 311-pound Morgan was a three-year starter at left tackle at Arizona before getting selected 25th overall in April’s draft. The rookie was moved to right guard and supplanted Sean Rhyan on the Packers’ depth chart.
Green Bay also said that wide receiver Jayden Reed sat out practice due to a calf injury. Reed, 24, started 13 of 16 games for the Packers last season and caught 64 passes for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed 11 times for 119 yards and two scores.
