Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning returned to the Denver sports scene Tuesday by joining the ownership group of the city’s 2026 NWSL expansion franchise.
The five-time NFL MVP guided the Broncos to a Super Bowl 50 championship and threw for 17,112 yards and 140 touchdowns in four seasons in the Mile High City from 2012-15.
“There’s a new sheriff in town,” the team posted on social media with a video featuring Manning and his brother, Eli.
“It’s a real honor to be part of something so meaningful to the Colorado community,” Manning said. “I’m proud to support the growth of women’s sports and excited to help build a club that our city and our state can rally behind.”
The Denver NWSL ownership group is led by controlling owner Rob Cohen and includes U.S. skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin.
“Peyton’s legacy as a champion and a leader is second to none,” Cohen said. “His impact on Colorado sports is unmatched, and we’re incredibly proud to have him as a partner. He brings passion, insight, and deep local roots — all of which will help us shape the future of Denver NWSL.”
Manning, 49, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. The 14-time Pro Bowl selection also won a Super Bowl with the Colts and ranks third all-time in passing yards (71,940) and TDs (539) in 266 games across 17 seasons with Indianapolis (1998-2010) and Denver.
