Pius Suter and Mason McTavish each had two goals and an assist in the St. Louis Blues’ 7-2 win over the host Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.
Jake Neighbours scored twice and defenseman Adam Jiricek got his first career goal for the Blues, who won their second straight. Pavel Buchnevich had three assists, Connor McMichael added two and Joel Hofer made 15 saves.
Claude Giroux and Fabian Zetterlund scored for the Senators in their second of back-to-back games and third in four nights. Samuel Ersson stopped 19 shots.
Suter’s short-handed goal with 5:32 left in the first period gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead. He went in on a partial breakaway after taking a pass from defenseman Colton Parayko for the sixth short-handed goal of Suter’s career.
Neighbours made it 2-0 with 6:40 remaining in the second when he beat Ersson from above the high slot.
Giroux closed the gap to 2-1 with 2:08 left in the middle period when he connected from the top portion of the right circle. It was thanks to an outstanding effort from Tim Stutzle to get a free puck at the left of the net and then pass to Giroux, who tied Hall of Famer Bobby Hull for 59th all-time with 1,170 points.
But McTavish restored the two-goal margin 33 seconds later when he capped a 3-on-2 rush by backhanding the puck into an empty net from the top of the crease.
Suter’s second goal 7:54 into the third period made it 4-1, when his harmless-looking shot from just above the goal line in the left corner went into the short side off Ersson.
Neighbours got his second goal with 5:14 left by slamming Buchnevich’s pass across the top of the crease into the empty side of the net.
McTavish’s second tally and Jiricek’s goal came in the final five minutes.
Zetterlund picked up a power-play goal for Ottawa with 1:27 left.
Senators defenseman Nikolas Matinpalo was out after suffering an upper-body injury Monday. Ottawa continued to be without top-four defensemen Jake Sanderson (lower body) and Artem Zub (knee).
