Kirk Cousins will play his first season in Atlanta as one of the Falcons’ four captains, the team announced Monday.
The veteran quarterback will lead Atlanta along with safety Jessie Bates III, defensive lineman Grady Jarrett and offensive tackle Jake Matthews.
Cousins, 36, has been a captain eight times throughout his first 12 NFL seasons, which he spent with Washington (2012-17) and Minnesota (2018-23) before joining the Falcons in March on a four-year, $180 million deal.
A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Cousins is 76-67-2 over 145 career starts. He has thrown for 39,471 yards with 270 touchdowns and 110 interceptions.
Bates is a captain for the second time in his career and the first time with the Falcons. Jarrett will captain Atlanta for a sixth straight season, while Matthews earns the honor for the fourth time.
