Racing Louisville and expansion club Bay FC announced a trade Friday ahead of next month’s NWSL Expansion Draft.
Racing acquired Bay FC’s second-round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft and protection in the expansion draft.
In exchange, San Jose, Calif.-based Bay FC receives Louisville’s third-round pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft plus $235,000 in alternative allocation money.
With the protection deal in place, Racing’s contracted players will only be open to selection by the other expansion team, Utah Royals FC, in the Dec. 15 expansion draft.
Utah can select up to two players from the Racing roster in that draft, unless a similar deal is worked out.
The 11 incumbent NWSL teams must announce their lists of nine players protected from the expansion draft by Dec. 12.
Restricted and unrestricted free agents and players under the age of 18 are not eligible to be selected in the expansion draft.
