The Arlington Renegades stopped a 2-point conversion with 1:13 to play and held on to defeat the visiting Houston Roughnecks 11-9 in Week 2 play on Sunday.
Arlington broke a 3-3 deadlock in the fourth quarter when Luis Perez connected with Deontay Burnett for a 9-yard touchdown pass with 10:35 to play. Perez found Burnett again for the 2-pointer as the Renegades took an 11-3 lead.
Houston rallied late, as Anthony Brown lobbed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Butler with 1:18 to play, forcing the fateful 2-point attempt to try for the tie.
Brown ran around right end but was tackled a yard shy of the red zone by Myles Dorn, preserving the lead and the eventual win for Arlington, which improved to 2-0. Houston fell to 0-2.
Perez completed 19 of 27 passes for 211 yards in the win. Dorn finished with four tackles. Brown had 179 yards passing and rushed for a team-high 20 yards.
