Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi did not make the trip to New York for Sunday’s game against the Rangers, Sportsnet reported.
Josi sustained an undisclosed injury in the first period and did not play in the remainder of Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
The former Norris Trophy-winning defenseman boasts team-leading totals in assists (41), points (59) and average ice time (25:10) in 67 games this season.
“It’s really challenging,” Predators coach John Hynes said of Josi. “No one can fill Roman’s role, the amount of time he plays, obviously the natural skills and ability to generate offense, break the puck out of the zone. You have to try to divide it up as best you can.”
Josi, 32, has totaled 601 points (158 goals, 443 assists) in 827 career games since the Predators selected him in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft.
