Gotham FC made a massive addition to the roster Wednesday when Sam Kerr of Australia was added on a free transfer following a productive 6 1/2 seasons with Chelsea of the Women’s Super League, multiple outlets reported.
During her stay in England, Kerr scored 116 goals in 158 matches and helped Chelsea to five league titles. The club also won three FA Cup titles and three League Cup trophies.
The move to Gotham comes as Kerr’s Chelsea contract expired.
The move marks Kerr’s return to the Gotham franchise, which was known as Sky Blue FC when she played with the club from 2015-17. She scored 28 goals during her previous NWSL stint in 40 matches.
Gotham is the defending NWSL champion but is fifth in the league standings at 6-3-2 (21 points). San Diego Wave FC leads the league at 8-1-4 (25 points).
Kerr, 32, also spent time with the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars from 2018-19 and scored 35 goals in 43 matches before moving to Chelsea.
In a separate move, Gotham traded defender Lilly Reale to Boston Legacy FC in exchange for $350,000 in allocation money and $50,000 in intraleague transfer funds. Reale joined Gotham before the 2025 season after she was a three-time All-America selection at UCLA.
