New York Jets starting left tackle Mekhi Becton is having an MRI on the ankle he injured in Sunday’s game but there’s optimism that it’s not as bad as originally thought, NFL Network and ESPN reported Monday.
The diagnosis is that Becton suffered a high-ankle sprain in the loss at Buffalo, per the reports.
Becton, 24, was carted off the field with the right ankle injury late in the first quarter. He was replaced by rookie Carter Warren, who made his NFL debut. Warren was the 13th OL used by the Jets this season, according to NFL Network.
Becton had started every game this season after missing the entire 2022 season and all but one game in 2021 after knee surgeries.
The Jets’ O-line has been decimated with injuries. Alijah Vera-Tucker (Achilles), Connor McGovern (knee) and Wes Schweitzer (calf) are all currently on injured reserve. Duane Brown is eligible to return from IR and the Jets have until Thursday to activate him or lose him for the rest of the season.
The Jets (4-6) play the Miami Dolphins (7-3) in the inaugural Black Friday game on Friday afternoon.
