Riley Tiernan scored on a header in the 63rd minute and Angel City FC picked up their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win Sunday over the visiting Seattle Reign.
Alyssa Thompson also tallied and Angelina Anderson made one save as Angel City (1-2-0, 5 points) remained unbeaten this season.
So-Yun Ji scored a goal for the Reign (1-1-1, 4 points), while Claudia Dickey made three saves in the defeat. It was Seattle’s first time failing to earn at least a point this season.
Thompson gave Angel City a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when she maneuvered into the penalty area and scored into the upper right corner of the Reign goal. It was the second time in three games Angel City scored in the opening nine minutes.
Seattle pulled even just four minutes later when Ji scored from the penalty spot.
Angel City got the game-winner from Tiernan in the 63rd minute when the rookie out of Rutgers delivered her first career NWSL goal off a long left-footed cross from Claire Emslie near the left corner. Tiernan redirected the ball into the net from just outside the six-yard box.
