Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto is going to miss a minimum of two weeks due to a lower-body injury, head coach Travis Green announced Saturday.
Pinto, who leads the Senators with 12 goals this season, sustained the injury while being checked along the boards by Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad during the first period of Ottawa’s 4-2 loss to New York on Thursday.
“It’s a big part of our team,” Green said on Saturday of Pinto, who also has six assists while playing in all 27 games this season.
“Like when Brady (Tkachuk) got hurt, (Thomas Chabot) — those are big parts of your team. We’re going to miss him when he’s out. When he gets back that’ll be great.”
Ridly Greig shuffled over to center to replace Pinto on Thursday and was seen practicing faceoff reps in practice on Saturday.
Pinto, 25, has 125 points (63 goals, 62 assists) and a plus-8 rating in 237 career games since being selected by the Senators in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
