The WNBA suspended Chicago Sky star Angel Reese for one game as a result of her reaching the technical foul limit for the season.

Reese will be forced to sit out the Sky’s game Friday at the rival Indiana Fever.

Reese was assessed her eighth technical foul of the season during the second quarter Wednesday in a win over the Connecticut Sun. When getting into position for a rebound on a Connecticut shot, Reese made contact with the back of her hand against the back of Sun forward Aaliyah Edwards’ head.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh said after that game that he planned to challenge the foul with the league, but the league appears to have upheld the call.

Friday’s contest between Chicago and Indiana won’t feature either Reese or Caitlin Clark, who has missed about six weeks with a groin injury and still hasn’t been cleared for contact.

After the Sky and Fever were scheduled to face each other five times this season, college rivals Clark and Reese have only played against one another once, the season opener on May 17. Clark has missed the remaining meetings due to injuries; Reese faced Indiana one more time on June 7 but also missed a chunk of time with injuries this year.

Reese was in the news earlier this week for comments she made about the Sky (10-30), who will miss the playoffs for the second straight year since drafting her.

The 23-year-old All-Star forward said she didn’t want 2026 to be a repeat of 2025, that “we have to get great players” and if Chicago didn’t improve, she “might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”

Reese apologized to her teammates and coaches and said she needed to choose better language to express her disappointment.
