The Washington Spirit and defender Tara McKeown exercised the mutual 2028 option on her contract Tuesday.
McKeown, 25, played all 2,350 minutes during the 2024 regular season and made the NWSL Best XI Second Team.
“Tara will continue to be a very important part of the Spirit moving forward and we’re thrilled she will be staying with the club,” general manager Mark Krikorian said in a news release.
After being drafted eighth overall, McKeown helped the Spirit win the NWSL championship as a rookie in 2021. Washington lost to the Orlando Pride in the 2024 title match.
