Stars GM Jim Nill signs one-year extension

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill signed a one-year contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him with the team through the 2023-24 season.

Contract terms were not announced.

Nill, 64, has held the job since April 29, 2013. During his tenure, the Stars have appeared in the playoffs five times and reached the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, won by the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

“While we have made some big strides toward our ultimate goal, I am eager to continue my work in developing a winning culture that ultimately brings this team and this city a championship,” Nill said in a news release.

The Stars’ record under Nill is 356-259-84.

Dallas was 46-30-6 last season and lost to the Calgary Flames in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs in seven games.

In the offseason, the Stars added Peter DeBoer as head coach, replacing Rick Bowness, as well as free agent forward Mason Marchment and defenseman Colin Miller.
