The visiting Dallas Stars overcame a two-goal effort by Kyle Yamamoto and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Utah Mammoth on Saturday night.
Thomas Harley and Wyatt Johnston each scored power-play goals and Jamie Benn tallied two assists for the Stars, who have won four straight. Casey DeSmith made 12 saves for his first win since Jan 7.
JJ Peterka had two assists and Karel Vejmelka made 28 saves for the Mammoth, who have lost two straight and three of their last four.
Harley put the Stars up 1-0 at 2:11 of the first period. Dallas was on a power play when Vejmelka stopped Mavrik Bourque’s wrist shot from the point, but couldn’t adjust before Harley scored on the rebound attempt.
Johnston increased the lead to 2-0 at 7:42. The Stars were on their second power play when Johnston tipped a long shot by Mikko Rantanen.
Yamamoto put Utah on the board at 10:23 to make it 2-1 with a snap shot through traffic. The Stars challenged the play for goaltender interference but were unsuccessful.
Matt Duchene made it 3-1 at 16:37 when Benn set him up for a snap shot that went bar down.
Dallas outshot Utah 11-5 in the scoreless second period.
Yamamoto closed the score gap 3-2 at 6:41 of the third. Peterka made a no-look backhanded pass to Yamamoto, who wristed the puck through traffic in front of Dallas’ net.
