Taylor Flint’s laser from outside the box 11 minutes into the second half was all Racing Louisville needed on Friday to beat Gotham FC 1-0 and earn their first home win of the season.
Jordyn Bloomer made four saves to earn her first clean sheet in her second NWSL start as Racing (3-2-3, 11 points) earned points for its third straight match.
Savannah DeMelo set up the 6-foot-1 midfielder’s first goal of the season after Gotham could not clear an attack. DeMelo found her teammate to her right, and Flint’s shot to the left post had more than enough pace to get past an outstretched Ann-Katrin Berger to put Racing on the board.
Gotham (3-3-3, 12 points) had a couple of chances in the second half, but headers by Esther in the 51st and 72nd minutes were off target. Bloomer also went to the ground to stop a Sofia Cook shot in the 90th.
Berger saved four shots for Gotham, which lost for the first time in three matches.
Racing prevailed despite Gotham controlling the ball for most of the game. Racing had possession for just a third of the first half, but they held the advantage in attempted shots (5-4) and shots on goal (3-2).
Gotham’s best chance in the first half came midway through. Midge Purce, who got her first start of the season, found Geyse just outside the box. The Brazilian native turned and fired on goal, but Bloomer dove to deflect the ball away from the goal.
