Thomas Harley has OT touch again, lifts Stars past Capitals

Thomas Harley scored his second goal of the game at 3:27 of overtime and the Dallas Stars defeated the visiting Washington Capitals 5-4 on Saturday.

It was Harley’s second overtime winner in the past two games and came after Washington scored twice in the final two minutes of the third period to force the extra session.

Matt Duchene scored in his second straight game and added an assist for the Stars, who have won three straight. Jake Oettinger made 24 saves.

Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who finished 0-3-1 on their road trip.

Anthony Mantha and Dylan Strome also had a goal and an assist. Charlie Lindgren made 30 saves for Washington, which is 1-6-1 on the road since Christmas.

Ovechkin scored on a slap shot during a power play at 18:00 of the third period to pull the Capitals within 4-3, and Strome scored the tying goal during a scramble in front with 43 seconds remaining.

Mantha gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 9:40 of the first period. Evgeny Kuznetsov’s shot on the rush was blocked by a Dallas defender, but the puck went to Mantha, who scored on a wrist shot from the slot for his 15th goal of the season.

Wyatt Johnston tied it at 10:44, taking a drop pass from Roope Hintz on the rush and scoring with a wrist shot from between the circles.

Harley gave the Stars a 2-1 lead less than one minute later when he got to a loose puck and scored stick side with a wrist shot from the high slot.

Rasmus Sandin tied it at 2 at 6:24 of the second period when he skated across the point before stopping and scoring on a wrist shot through a screen.

Marchment gave the Stars a 3-2 lead when he tipped in Tyler Sequin’s centering pass at the 11:00 mark during a power play for his 16th goal of the season.

A Dallas rush became a 2-on-1 when Marchment passed to the wide-open Duchene, who scored on a wrist shot from the slot to make it 4-2 at 2:24 of the third period.
