Three-goal flurry propels Stars to rout of Bruins

dallas stars

The Dallas Stars never trailed and used three goals in a 5:34 span late in the second period to blow past the visiting Boston Bruins 7-2 on Thursday, sweeping the teams’ two-game season series.

Evgenii Dadonov posted his first multi-goal game of the season, scoring on a first-period penalty shot before closing the Stars’ quick-fire stretch in the second with only 10.6 seconds remaining in the period.

Matt Duchene, Oskar Back and Mason Marchment each had a goal and an assist, Tyler Seguin dished two assists, and Logan Stankoven and Roope Hintz also scored for Dallas, which had 14 players record points.

Jake Oettinger made 23 saves for his third win in four games.

Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak scored goals, and Jeremy Swayman (31 saves) allowed a career-high seven goals for Boston, which was on a three-game point streak (2-0-1).

The Stars found the back of the net on their first shot only 1:09 in, as Duchene buried a snapper from the left circle after Marchment drove down the opposite wing and circled the goal to drop the puck.

At 6:36, Dadonov doubled the Dallas lead on his fourth career penalty-shot goal. After being held by Mason Lohrei on a break-in, Dadonov worked down the slot and fired a wrister under Swayman’s stick-side arm.

Coyle gave the Bruins life with 2:12 left before the first intermission, driving to the right post to redirect Trent Frederic’s feed.

Dallas never looked back after Stankoven re-established the two-goal lead at 14:15 of the second. Stankoven picked up and deposited a puck that dribbled loose off Thomas Harley’s point shot.

Back made it 4-1 at 15:56. Colin Blackwell dished the puck through a defender in transition, leading to the rookie one-hand tapping it over Swayman.

Dadonov extended the Dallas advantage just before the middle frame expired, driving to the bottom of the left circle and shooting to Swayman’s opposite shoulder.

Only 47 seconds into the third, Jason Robertson capitalized on a blue-line turnover and got the puck to Hintz, who stuck it home while sandwiched between two defenders.

Pastrnak brought the Bruins within 6-2 at 3:35, taking Morgan Geekie’s short feed for a wrister from the slot.

Finishing the Stars’ offense, Marchment buried Seguin’s one-time feed to the right circle with 2:41 remaining.
