Vegas defenseman Alex Pietrangelo has withdrawn from playing for Team Canada in the upcoming 2025 4 Nations Face-off because of an undisclosed ailment, the Golden Knights announced Sunday.
Pietrangelo, 35, and the Golden Knights have seven games to play before the NHL breaks for the tournament in Montreal and Boston from Feb. 12-20.
“Alex Pietrangelo will be withdrawing from the 2025 4Nations Face-Off to tend to an ailment and prepare for the remainder of the regular season with Vegas,” the team announced on social media.
The tournament features NHL players from Finland, Sweden, Canada and the United States in a round-robin format. Team Sweden might be without New Jersey goaltender Jacob Markstrom (sprained MCL) and Vegas forward William Karlsson (lower-body injury).
A three-time All-Star, Pietrangelo recorded 22:42 of ice time in the Golden Knights’ 4-3 loss at Dallas on Friday.
This season, the native of King City, Ontario, has three goals and 22 assists with a plus-11 plus/minus rating, eight penalty minutes and 87 blocks in 46 games.
Pietrangelo has 629 career points (147 goals, 482 assists) in 1,062 regular-season games for the St. Louis Blues (2008-20) and Golden Knights (2020-present). He also has 13 goals and 60 assists in 139 playoff games, winning the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019 and the Golden Knights in 2023.
The Golden Knights announced their Quarter-Century Team on Sunday, as all teams will do this season for players who were part of a franchise from Jan. 1, 2000 to Dec. 31, 2024. Pietrangelo was voted to the first team of three forwards, two defenseman and one goaltender.
