Courses in Vietnam and Australia have been named as the host venues for the next two Asia-Pacific Amateur Championships.
Hoiana Shores Golf Club in Hoi An, Vietnam, will host the 2027 Asia-Pacific Amateur from Oct. 28-31, 2027, while New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney, Australia, will serve as host from Nov. 2-5, 2028.
The announcement was made Wednesday by The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the Masters Tournament and The R&A, with the 17th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship being held at Te Arai Links in New Zealand this week.
Vietnam will host the event for the first time, while Australia has previously held it at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club in 2014 and 2023.
“We are very fortunate to be able to stage the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at some of the world’s finest courses, and Hoiana Shores and New South Wales are undoubtedly in that category,” R&A Chief Executive Mark Darbon said on behalf of the founding partners. “We are very much looking forward to taking the championship to Vietnam for the first time and enjoying one of the world’s great emerging golf destinations.
“We are also thrilled to be returning to Australia and visiting such a renowned championship venue as New South Wales for the first time. Both courses will offer outstanding tests of golf for the players in wonderful locations and create exciting new chapters for the AAC.”
The annual event features the top male amateurs in the Asia-Pacific region representing the 43 Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation affiliated organizations. The winner earns an invitation to the following year’s Masters and an exemption into The Open.
Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, won the Asia-Pacific Amateur twice. Fellow major champions Cam Smith and Ryan Fox have also competed in the event. Past competitors have gone on to win a combined 34 tournaments on the PGA Tour and more than 180 professional events worldwide.
