Washington Spirit star forward Trinity Rodman is out indefinitely as she deals with a recurrence of back problems.
The United States Women’s National Team standout has been dealing with back trouble for several years.
“Trinity is taking time away from team activities to manage her back,” the Spirit told media outlets in a statement on Saturday. “We look forward to her returning when she’s healthy.”
Rodman, 22, recently said she didn’t think her back will ever be 100 percent healthy.
“It’s kind of an issue of it’s not one specific thing, it’s just the way that my back’s structured,” Rodman said. “And it’s more so management than like a curable fix.”
Rodman appeared for the USWNT against Brazil on April 8 in her first international appearance since the 2024 Olympics.
Last September, Rodman was helped off the field via wheelchair during a game against the Kansas City Current.
Rodman has 11 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances (29 starts) for the USWNT.
Rodman is scoreless in four matches with Washington this season. Overall, she has 23 goals in four-plus seasons with the Spirit.
The Spirit are facing the Orlando Pride on Saturday.
