Wesley Bryan stays in front, holds Corales Puntacana lead

wesley bryan

Wesley Bryan shot a 6-under 66 on Friday and holds a one-shot lead over Justin Lower at the midway point of the Corales Puntacana Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Lower shot a sizzling 64 Friday to cut into Bryan’s lead. Bryan led by three strokes after an opening-round 63 and is at 15-under 129 through 36 holes at Puntacana Resort & Club.

Greyson Sigg shot 65 and is alone in third at 11-under 133.

Charley Hoffman (68), Pierceson Coody (67), Kevin Tway (66) and Bill Haas (65) are tied for fourth, five shots back of Bryan.

The 34-year-old Bryan is feeling good about his game and said the greens are to his liking.

“I just feel like if you have a lot of shots in your arsenal around the green, I feel like this is a good spot to be able to use them all,” Bryan said. “So I enjoy around the greens. So like when I come here and miss greens, I get pretty excited at times. Yeah, I’m just excited for the weekend.”

Bryan carded an eagle on the par-5, No. 7 and followed up two birdies to highlight his round. He began his day on No. 10 and had four birdies on his first 10 holes before the late flourish. He also had two bogeys.

Lower also started on the back side and had seven birdies on his first 10 holes. He made three more on the front to make it 10 overall. He also had two bogeys.

“I’ve been playing well most of the year or so, so it was fun to see,” Lower said of his stellar round. “It was 10 birdies. Anytime you birdie half the holes it’s fun, but even more than half is great.”

Sigg had eight birdies and one bogey in a round that was three shots better than his Thursday display.

Haas recorded nine birdies and two bogeys during his strong round.

“Haven’t shot many low scores in a while, so just to be here and tee it up and give myself a chance,” Haas said. “Even though it hasn’t been what I want for a long time, I still believe in myself. So to shoot a good score, make some putts, I got off to a nice start.”

Hoffman had five birdies and one bogey, Tway carded an eagle on No 7 plus four birdies, and Coody had six birdies and one bogey while shooting his second straight 67.
