Wild rally, upend Blues with 3-goal third period

Blues, Wild

Matt Boldy scored the go-ahead goal with 16:03 left in the third period, and the Minnesota Wild rallied for a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night in Saint Paul, Minn.

Jake Middleton and Marcus Johansson each finished with a goal and an assist for Minnesota, which has won four in a row and six of its last seven. Zach Bogosian, Jon Merrill and Joel Eriksson Ek also scored, while Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Hartman each had two assists.

Jordan Kyrou scored his team-high 18th goal for St. Louis, which has lost two straight games by the same score. Pavel Buchnevich, Jake Neighbours and Robert Thomas added one goal apiece, and Dylan Holloway and Justin Faulk both chipped in a pair of assists.

Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury entered the game in the second period and stopped all 16 shots he faced. He relieved Filip Gustavsson, who allowed four goals on 18 shots.

Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington gave up five goals on 25 shots.

The Wild rallied with four unanswered goals in the final 30:19 to secure the victory.

Eriksson Ek started the comeback when he scored to cut Minnesota’s deficit to 4-3 with 10:19 to go in the second period. Hartman passed the puck to him in the right circle, and he capitalized with a wrist shot past Binnington.

Middleton pulled the Wild even with 18:44 remaining in the third. He scored in his first game back from an upper-body injury that sidelined him since Dec. 12.

Minnesota grabbed a 5-4 lead on Boldy’s one-timer from the right circle.

Johansson finished the scoring with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Bogosian opened the scoring 1:23 into the game for Minnesota. He scored on a slap shot from near the blue line.

Merrill made it 2-0 less than a minute later on a wrist shot from the left circle.

The Blues countered with a goal from Buchnevich with 6:34 to go in the first period. That proved to be the first of a four-goal outburst from St. Louis.

Kyrou was next in line to score, which pulled the Blues even at 2-all with 18:36 to go in the second. He ripped a wrist shot through traffic from the top of the left circle.

St. Louis grabbed its first lead 87 seconds later. Neighbours scored on an odd-man rush after Oskar Sundqvist fed him a pass as he streaked toward the net.

The Blues increased their lead to 4-2 with 15:27 left in the second period. Thomas fielded a pass near the left side of the crease, turned and punched a shot past Gustavsson.
