Women’s Top 25 roundup: No. 4 UCLA takes down No. 19 Ohio State

Lauren Betts’ 18 points and Kiki Rice’s 16 points carried No. 4 UCLA past No. 19 Ohio State for an 82-75 Big Ten Conference victory Sunday in Columbus, Ohio, in the only game on the day’s schedule pitting nationally ranked teams against each other.

Angela Dugalic added 15 points off the bench for UCLA (12-1, 2-0 Big Ten), which also received 12 points apiece from Gianna Kneepkens and Gabriela Jaquez.

Jaloni Cambridge pumped in 28 points on 11-for-19 shooting for Ohio State (12-2, 1-1). T’yana Todd made four of the team’s seven 3-pointers on the way to 16 points and Elsa Lemmila had 13 points.

The Bruins built a 76-60 lead with less than six minutes to play, but the Buckeyes got within 78-72 with two minutes left before Kneepkens hit a 3-pointer. Ohio State didn’t score after Chance Gray’s three-point play at the 1:28 mark.

No. 2 Texas 120, Southeastern Louisiana 38

Kyla Oldacre scored 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting off the bench and Madison Booker racked up 20 points as the Longhorns reached the 100-point mark for the sixth time while cruising in Austin, Texas.

Jordan Lee’s 16 points along with 12 points apiece from Breya Cunningham and Bryanna Preston also helped Texas (15-0), which made more field goals (48 of 80, 60%) than its opponent attempted (45).

Eryn McKinzie scored 13 points and Aliyah Collins had 10 points for Southeastern Louisiana (2-8), which committed 20 of its 30 turnovers in the first half.

No. 3 South Carolina 96, Providence 55

Madina Okot and Tessa Johnson both scored 18 points and all five Gamecocks starters scored in double figures in the runaway victory over the Friars in Columbia, S.C.

Joyce Edwards added 14 points and Ta’Niya Latson, Raven Johnson and reserve Agot Makeer all had 10 points for South Carolina (13-1), which led 46-34 at halftime before pulling away. Okot finished with 13 rebounds.

Sabou Gueye scored 16 points for Providence (8-6), which shot 3 for 17 on 3-pointers while South Carolina made 12 of 29.

No. 11 Kentucky 80, Hofstra 42

Clara Strack made 11 of 17 shots from the field on the way to 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats in the romp over the Pride in Lexington, Ky.

Amelia Hassett used 5-for-8 shooting on 3-pointers to pour in 18 points and Asia Boone added 11 points for Kentucky (13-1), which has won six games in a row after shooting 50% from the floor.

Chloe Sterling provided 16 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field for Hofstra (2-9).

No. 24 Michigan State 70, Rutgers 64

Rashunda Jones notched 14 points and the Spartans held on to secure their first Big Ten victory of the season over the Scarlet Knights in East Lansing, Mich.

Kennedy Blair provided 12 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and Ines Sotelo had 12 points for Michigan State (12-1, 1-1 Big Ten), which made just three of its 24 attempts on 3-pointers and was outrebounded 44-36.

Nene Ndiaye had 16 points and Faith Blackstone posted 15 points for Rutgers (8-5, 0-2), which couldn’t overcome 25 turnovers and 4-for-20 shooting from 3-point range.
