The field for the Texas Children’s Houston Open became much stronger Friday.
Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark, major champions ranked Nos. 1 and 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking, were announced as part of this year’s field.
The tournament, teeing off March 28 at Memorial Park Golf Course, is back from a one-year absence on the tour schedule. It was played in November 2022 as part of the “wraparound” 2022-23 PGA Tour season, but with the reshuffling of the tour’s schedule it has returned to the spring for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champ and a Texas native, will make his fifth start at the event. He tied for ninth in the 2022-23 edition and tied for second in the 2021-22 after holding the 54-hole lead.
Clark, who had his breakthrough moment when he won the 2023 U.S. Open, has played the Houston Open each of the past three seasons and finished T16 in November 2022.
Tony Finau, who won the 2022 edition of the event, will return to defend his title.
