Anna Bondar racked up 12 aces while outlasting top-seeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Friday to reach the semifinals of the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open.
The 28-year-old Hungarian committed just one double fault while Alexandrova had six against just one ace. It is the second career Top-20 win for Bondar, who will face Kaja Juvan of Slovenia in the semis.
Juvan advanced with a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 triumph over Spain’s Leyre Romero Gormaz. No. 2 Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine was a 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-2 winner over Hungary’s Dalma Galfi and will face recent French Open semifinalist Lois Boisson as the No. 5 seed cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova.

No. 2 seed Jaqueline Cristian of Romania won 75 percent of her first-serve points (27 of 36) while posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hungary’s Panna Udvardy to reach the semifinals in Romania.
Two other Romanians also advanced as No. 7 Irina-Camelia Begu outlasted Czech Anna Siskova 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 and Sorana Cirstea sailed to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Maria Lourdes Carle of Argentina. Cristian and Begu will face off in one of the semis.
No. 6 Jil Teichmann rallied past Swiss counterpart Simona Waltert 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. Teichmann will meet Cirstea in the other semi.
