Camila Osorio of Colombia fought past Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova 7-6 (6), 6-2 on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Guadalajara Open Akron in Mexico.
The 22-year-old Osorio is the first Colombian player to reach the semis of a WTA 500 event. Rakhimova took a 6-5 lead in a back-and-forth first-set tiebreaker, but Osorio saved set point and took control from there. Osorio finished the match having saved 7 of 9 break points.
In the semis, Osorio will face Australian Olivia Gadecki, who defeated Italian Martina Trevisan 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Gadecki, ranked just 152nd in the world, broke Trevisan’s serve 8 times in 10 opportunities.
No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia of France advanced via walkover after her scheduled opponent, Czech No. 6 seed Marie Bouzkova, withdrew due to illness. The final quarterfinal match of Friday night pitted No. 5 seed Magdalena Frech of Poland against Canadian Marina Stakusic.

Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia overcame Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 in a three-hour, 22-minute duel to reach the semifinals in Monastir, Tunisia.
After Sramkova blew a 3-0 lead in the third set, Sorribes Tormo served for the match up 5-3, but Sramkova saved a match point and stole the ninth game. That turned the momentum in her favor, as she won three more games to polish off her opponent. Sramkova broke Sorribes Tormo’s serve 8 times in 13 chances.
Sramkova’s reward is a date with the last seeded player remaining in the draw, No. 7 Lucia Bronzetti of Italy, who demolished Antonia Ruzic of Croatia 6-2, 6-1.
The other semifinal will pit Eva Lys of Germany against Sonay Kartal of Great Britain. Lys defeated Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez 7-5, 6-3, and Kartal got past Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva 7-6 (4), 6-2.
